The story is interesting, and so are all of the romance options. The writing is good as well, though can be quite awkward at times. I especially enjoyed the romance aspect, as all of the characters, despite their tropes, felt unique and engaging. There is one frustrating issue I can't look past though, and it's being spoon-fed the plot through the dialogue. Too little shown, too much told. It felt like the story was happening outside of the main character's involvement and influence, rather than the main character living through it. The chapters were draining, as the dialogue just went on and on for the entirety of it and not much else took place beside it. It's also quite a pity that the most interesting parts of the story happened during the main character's absence. Overall, this dialogue-driven writing could've worked in a visual novel, but falls short in an interactive novel. I wished to know more of the world, be present and significant in it.
That’s surprising to hear given that I received the opposite reviews telling me that the story used too many descriptions and too little dialogue, haha. That being said, yup, that’s why I am making a supplementary story taking place during the protagonist’s absence. You might want to skip it, though, since it’ll be written and done similarly to the main game. Still, thanks for playing!
i have not even finished my first playthrough of the full game and i've had to get up and walk away to silently scream/pace multiple times. 10/10 i don't even care if i haven't finished it yet i am 100% confident that this is the best thing i've read/played in AGES
The full Android version is already released. If you're playing the [com.pdrr.fmofull-release.apk] version and can't progress past the demo content, you might need to clear cache.
haven’t finished the game yet but like. another absolute banger oh my goddddd. i want to wax poetic abt it but i’m absolutely at a loss for words rn. may return to wax poetic abt it if i find the words. the words will be inadequate even if i do return to wax poetic abt it.
only played the demo so far but the writing was such a higher quality than what I was expecting from the casual play I was planning to do when I downloaded it!
the warnings weren't kidding! this game goes Darkk and everything felt so raw and gritty, and it was such a lovely reading experience.
Loved the worldbuilding also. It was such a treat experiencing the way MC navigates their fragile position in court and how dying and being exploited and betrayed changed them and how even in playthroughs w more self-serving traits, there's still a little bit of love and humanity left within them that still shines through.
I explored all the ROs and they were all so compelling! Especially those with looser morals and comparing how you interact with them and how they interact with you depending on the MC's altruism vs self-serving-ness.
It's also so nice to compare the subtle text that gets included whenever you choose a specific route (for example, that one line of Mirren's clenched jaw [which doesn't appear in other routes!] when you chose to suck up to Mastravisch and you were pulled to his lap in one of the earlier scenes ).
Needless to say, I loved all the routes. I just wish there was a poly option for Saltaire and Mal because even when I picked one's route over the other, the 3 of them still mesh so well together!! The both of them saving and caring for MC while in recovery, MC breaking up their fights (and them being cowed by MC acting like scolded children when caught), the banter between all 3 of them and the way they all tease ach other, and how they all sleep side by side and comfort each other. (Also I was particularly surprised when in Saltaire's route it was Mal who asked MC whether they want to push through w the revenge or just leave everything behind. And I was surprised how in Mal's route, Saltaire was still completely devoted to MC to the point that the blood oath was still offered.) Ya'know?? things like that.
But who knows! I haven't seen the rest of the game yet so I'm not sure where the plot will take them. So just sharing my thoughts! Just genuinely thought it's such a shame because there was already such genuine chemistry between the 3 of them together that it feels disingenuous to only choose 1.
To tell you the truth, 5 ROs + 2 LTs with 2 variations each were already hard for me to handle, that’s why adding another LT or poly route was out of the question. I really did bite more than I could comfortably chew, though I am delighted to know that people seem to enjoy the game for what it is.
Other than that, Malitiose is definitely not one to share, so the pairing proposed by you just wouldn’t work in canon, sorry about that!
ohhh I see, yeah I can see how much added work that will be, I didn't consider that sorry. Also, Malitiose being unwilling to share makes sense! I haven't finished the entire thing yet so I didn't have a full grasp of his character yet.
Anyway, thank you so much for your work! I actually just finished Cursed Place just a few hours ago and what a banger once again! V atmospheric and mysterious too
It’s totally fine! I, too, had no idea how much work it would entail before I started, because it looked manageable as a draft hahaha. But now I know, and I think that’s all that matters. We live and learn, after all.
Thank you so much for playing! I am happy to hear you enjoyed Cursed Place! <3
Is it wrong that I created an account just to express how much I adore this game? While I've only experienced the demo for now, I can confidently say that once I acquire the funds, I’ll be purchasing this incredible game without hesitation. I've been eagerly awaiting its release for months (even have it bookmarked, lol), and I’m certain it will be everything I’ve hoped for and more. Can't wait! <33
This game took me by surprise. The vibe is very- if a Charlotte Brontë and Terry Pratchett novel had a baby. It took a while to get into it, as I was on the fence about buying the full thing. However, the unique world of the dead and writing style grew on me over time to become one of my favourite works of interactive fiction. The world building could be stronger and the mc is a bit of a demsel... but I think for a stand alone story those aren't such a big deal. The friendships and romance are by far on a whole other level, the author beautifully captures the different character personalities and how they play off of each other and the mc and their choices. Last but not least, Mirren, sweet quiet Mirren, I've cried tears of joy, sorrow and frustration at almost all of his/her scenes.
So I think I messed up, I paid $5 for the full game and then decided I wanted the guide too so I paid another $5 but it's still locked. Is there a way I could get the guide?
i was about to go back to pay another 5 to get the guidebook because i also messed up but i saw this comment first and held back for now since i was worried it also wouldn't work for me. I hope there's a way we can resolve our mistakes ;A;
I am obsessed with how you characterize the love interests. Each is unique and definitely has something about them that's not revealed at first glance. I am also quite fond of the setting. I know I will enjoy playing through all the different options and outcomes in the full version.
I finished Lotars route yesterday and I have to say I absolutely love the way you write romance! 💖 that said, the story did jump around a bit, with characters like Penelope and the fey appearing quite suddenly. It felt a bit disjointed at times. Some of the plot twists— the betrayal - and what ultimately became of the Matriarch—were so wild that I couldn’t help but laugh. 🙈 It was chaotic, but entertaining!
The amount of variables made it difficult to ‘glue’ some passages as smoothly as I’d like without creating even longer branches and routes, so I decided to do what I saw in other IFs and 'hard cap' the passages. I am waiting for more feedback atm, so I might go back and adjust some things like the stat lock and so on as needed. I probably won't be having as many ROs and/or LTs in my other games, though, as less content will help me keep things coherent.
I never comment on itchio, but I just wanted to say I’m so looking forward to playing the full game, I LOVED the demo - the way you write and all your world building is phenomenal never stop writing/creating art.

The in-game font is Atkinson Hyperlegible, it was changed from the font you can see in screenshots for readability.
